• What's included

What a whole-home renovation with us covers

Larger renovations handled end to end — several rooms, several trades, one schedule. Here's the work that usually makes up one of these projects.

Flooring throughout

One material carried through the house, or a considered change from room to room. Usually the first thing that makes a renovation read as finished. Flooring

Bathroom remodels

One bathroom or every bathroom in the house, done within the same schedule as the rest of the work. Bathrooms

Tile and stone work

Showers, floors, backsplashes and feature walls in porcelain and natural stone. Tile & stone

Kitchen work

Flooring, backsplash and the finishes that pull a kitchen together. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll be straight about which parts we take on.

Finishing trades

Trim, drywall, paint, plumbing and electrical — the trades that usually leave a homeowner chasing four different phone numbers.

Stairs, built-ins and trim

Staircases rebuilt, shelving and built-ins fitted, and the carpentry details that make an old house feel solid again.

• Worth knowing up front

What we don't take on

We renovate what's already there. We are not architects and we don't take on projects that change a home's footprint or structure:

  • Architectural design and drawings
  • Room additions and extensions
  • Adding a second storey
  • Building decks, porches and outdoor structures
  • New construction from the ground up

If that's what your project needs, say so when you call and we'll tell you straight away rather than after a site visit. And if the structural side is already handled by someone else, we're glad to take on the interior work that follows.

• How it works

How a home renovation runs, from first call to final walk

Step 01 · Consultation

We walk the whole house with you, room by room, and work out what's in scope and what isn't.

Step 02 · Estimate and plan

A written estimate broken down by area, plus the order the work will run in. Changes get documented in advance, not after.

Step 03 · The build

Trades sequenced so they aren't tripping over each other, and one person you can call about any of it.

Step 04 · Walkthrough

We walk the finished house together and work through the punch list. It isn't done until you're happy.

• Common questions

Home remodeling questions, answered

Do you build additions or second storeys?

No. We renovate the house that's already standing — we don't add rooms, add floors, build decks or porches, or take on new construction, and we don't do architectural drawings. If your project needs any of that, tell us on the phone and we'll say so immediately instead of wasting a site visit. Once the structural work is done by someone else, we're happy to take on the interior finishing.

How much does a whole-home renovation cost in Charleston?

There's no useful average, because two houses of the same size can differ several times over depending on how many bathrooms are involved, whether the kitchen is in scope and what the materials are. We won't quote a figure over the phone. We walk the house, agree the scope room by room, and give you a written estimate broken down by area. That visit is free.

Can we live in the house during the renovation?

Often yes, if the work can be staged so you keep a working bathroom and kitchen. Sometimes it's genuinely easier to be out for part of it. We'll give you our honest read at the consultation and plan the sequence around whichever you choose.

Do I need to hire separate trades, or do you handle everything?

We handle the renovation trades — flooring, tile, bathrooms, kitchen finishes, trim, drywall, paint, plumbing and electrical — under one schedule and one point of contact. You don't end up coordinating five subcontractors yourself.

What happens if something unexpected turns up behind a wall?

In older Charleston homes it sometimes does. We stop, show you what we found, and document the change and its cost before carrying on. You approve it in advance — you don't discover it on the final invoice.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Wisebuild is fully licensed in South Carolina and carries comprehensive insurance, which matters more on a whole-home job than on any other kind of work we do.
